A trip is rarely ruined by the tent or the rucksack. It is usually the small things: a flat torch, a soaked sleeping bag, no way to boil water, and nothing to sit on in the evening but a cold log. We looked at which camping gear sells best on AliExpress and picked eight items with thousands of sales and a 98% seller rating. Almost everything here costs less than a meal out, and it will last for years.

How we chose
The main criterion was simple: number of sales. Everything on the list has been bought more than two thousand times, and the top item has sold over 20,000. We also checked the share of positive reviews and left out anything rated below 95%. Prices are as of 26 October for delivery to the UK and may change with the variant and with promotions.
We split the list into four blocks: light, kitchen, sleep and waterproofing, and camp comfort.
Camp lighting
1. COB lantern with magnet and hook
The best seller on the list, with more than 20,000 purchases. It is a compact LED lantern with a wide COB panel that gives diffuse light rather than a narrow beam. You can hang it from the hook under the tent roof, stick it to a car or a metal pole with the magnet, or even use it as an emergency power source for your phone in a pinch. The body is waterproof.
For camp, a lantern like this is handier than a head torch: it lights the whole space around you, and nobody gets dazzled when you turn your head. You should still take a head torch for night trips out of the tent.

Camp kitchen
2. BRS-3000T titanium stove
A legend of ultralight hiking. The stove weighs 25 grams, folds into a pocket and screws straight onto a threaded gas canister. For one or two people who just need to boil water for tea and freeze-dried meals, it is enough. More than 5,000 sold.
That lightness has a price: the stove is sensitive to wind and doesn’t like wide, heavy pans. Use a small pot and shield the flame from the wind with at least a rucksack or some stones.

3. Widesea gas canister refill adapter
Cheap, yet one of the most popular items for camp cooking, with almost 6,000 sales. The adapter lets you transfer gas from an ordinary collet-type canister into a threaded hiking one. Collet canisters are sold almost everywhere and cost less, so the adapter pays for itself in a couple of trips.
Refill canisters outdoors, away from any flame, and don’t overfill them. If you are not confident doing it, buy ready-filled threaded canisters instead.

4. Camping cookware set
An ultralight set of pots for cooking outdoors. Sets like this usually nest inside one another and take up almost no room in a rucksack, but check the exact contents on the listing. A good match for the stove in item 2: the small pot is handy for boiling water, and the larger one can cook porridge or pasta for two. More than 2,000 sets sold.

Sleep and waterproofing
5. Emergency thermal foil sleeping bag
A lightweight waterproof blanket bag made of thermal insulating foil. It won’t replace a proper sleeping bag, but it is never wasted in a first-aid kit or the car. If you get soaked, stay in the woods longer than planned or someone in the group gets cold, a foil bag helps retain body heat. It weighs little and packs smaller than a mug. Almost 6,800 sold.

6. Naturehike compression sack
A sack made of 300D Oxford fabric with straps that squeezes a sleeping bag or warm clothes down several times over. The sleeping bag is usually what takes up the most room in a rucksack, and a compression sack solves that in a couple of minutes. The manufacturer claims it is waterproof, but for rafting or prolonged rain we would still put the sleeping bag in a dry bag as well, like the one in item 7.

7. Dry bag in 8, 40 or 70 litres
A waterproof bag with a roll-top opening. The small 8-litre version suits documents, a phone and a first-aid kit, while the large 40 and 70-litre ones are for clothes and a sleeping bag. It is useful far beyond canoe trips: in a rainy forest it is the most reliable way to keep your sleeping gear dry. More than 3,600 sold.

Camp comfort
8. TARKA folding chair
The most expensive item on the list, but also the most noticeable boost to comfort. This lightweight folding chair, which the seller markets as ultralight, packs into a compact bundle and doesn’t take much boot space. It suits picnics, fishing, the beach and camping next to the car. More than 4,000 sold. It is admittedly on the heavy side for a multi-day hike on foot, but it works great for car trips or a base camp.

What to buy first
If your budget is tight, start with whatever affects safety and keeps your kit dry. A first-trip set could look like this:
- Light: a COB camp lantern. It is inexpensive and also handy at home when the lights go out.
- Water and warmth: the BRS-3000T stove and a small pot. A hot tea on a cold evening changes the mood of the whole trip.
- Dry kit: a dry bag for your sleeping bag and clothes.
- Insurance: an emergency foil sleeping bag for the first-aid kit.
The compression sack, the refill adapter and the chair can be added later, once it is clear how often you get out into nature.
A few tips before you buy
Check the variant before you order. AliExpress listings often offer several sizes and configurations at once, and the price in our list refers to the cheapest one. The 70-litre dry bag costs noticeably more than the 8-litre, and a cookware set may differ in the number of pots.
Try the stove and the adapter at home, on a balcony or in the garden, before your first trip. That way you will know in advance that the thread fits your canisters, and you won’t be sorting it out in the dark and the wind.
One last thing: order cold-season gear in advance. The delivery time is shown on each product listing, so check it if you are planning a trip for a particular weekend.
