The pursuit of megapixels in smartphones has come to a logical end – consumers, in addition to multimedia features and navigation, desire 21st-century technologies. And the Caterpillar brand, known to buyers for its rugged smartphones, is ready to fulfill these wishes.
Laser Rangefinder and Thermal Imager in the CAT S61 Smartphone
At the MWC 2018 exhibition, Caterpillar introduced fans to the flagship of the line – the CAT S61 smartphone. The phone replaces the outdated CAT S60 model. In addition to improved technical specifications, the new device features a laser rangefinder and thermal imager as additional functions.
According to company representatives, it is premature to talk about equipment that meets professional standards. But for tourism and extreme sports, the smartphone will definitely be useful. The thermal imager measures temperatures within -20 to +400 degrees Celsius, and the rangefinder determines distances up to 10 meters.
CAT S61 smartphones also feature a sensor that detects air composition. The Caterpillar brand did not change its usual habits and equipped the phone with waterproofing and resistance to physical damage.
Primarily, the smartphone is aimed at construction workers and installers working on high-rise buildings who dream of modern phones in protective cases. As for the thermal imager – it’s unclear, but the rangefinder will surely be useful for builders. The second category of buyers includes tourists, extreme sports enthusiasts, and athletes who are eager to acquire such technology.
We should not forget modern youth, who also dream of standing out among peers and showing others that besides the iPhone, a Caterpillar smartphone with cutting-edge features can also be on their table.
