Fake: What it is and how to distinguish it from the truth

Fake – is a deliberately false news story (disinformation, “drop”), launched by the author for entertainment or to achieve some result. In politics, a fake helps eliminate a competitor by negatively affecting the candidate’s electorate. Comedians launch fake news for fun. Businesspeople use partially false information to attract customers.

Approximately 97% of false news can be easily identified using the Google (Yandex or Yahoo) search engine. Highlight a part of the text (the first sentence), and enter it into the browser’s search bar. For easier sorting of results, you can add the word “fake” or “lie” after the phrase with a space. By studying the first 3-5 search results, a conclusion is made.

Fake news authors are aware of verification technologies, so they can veil the news within the text itself. This is a bit more complicated. Find the most “bright” sentence – carrying the semantic load of the entire text, and again, enter it into the search engine.

Google can also help with images. Launch the search engine’s homepage. In the upper right corner, there is a “Images” button, which you need to click. The search window will update – a camera logo will appear, and clicking on it will offer 2 options for solving the task. If there is a link to a photo – specify it. If not, select “upload file” (pre-saved) and specify its path. Descriptions of search results will allow you to conclude whether it is a fake or truthful information.

Be vigilant on the Internet and do not believe everything written. Especially on social networks. After all, negative news affects mood. People want to relax and unwind, but instead, everything happens the opposite – tension and fatigue.
