Google Street View: Google Maps Watches Everyone

The assistance of 360-degree cameras from the Google Street View service is simply invaluable to users. Plotting an exact route or finding the facade of a store is difficult without Google Maps. The whole world uses the convenient Google Maps application on PCs, laptops, and mobile devices.

But few notice that they themselves are under close surveillance by cameras. An incident involving a resident of Peru showed internet users that there is a negative side to the service.

A family couple from Peru, wishing to remain anonymous, lived happily for a long time until one day, the man decided to use Google’s service. Searching for a landmark in Lima and plotting a route led the head of the family to an unexpected discovery.

Noticing a loving couple on a bench, the man was surprised by the familiar appearance of the woman sitting on the bench. The girl was stroking the hair of the guy lying on her lap. The clothing, shoes, and appearance of the girl were too familiar. The man recognized his beloved wife in her.

The presence of irrefutable evidence became a fact of adultery in court. The family couple divorced. After the divorce process was completed, the information leaked to the media and was actively discussed on social networks.

Photos of shop thefts, sex in parking lots, and other violations – excellent evidence for the police.

But for most people, such surveillance seems uncomfortable. Social media users believe that Google Street View should filter out images with people. After all, according to the laws of most countries, this is an invasion of privacy.

As expected, the incident did not gain publicity, because for most of the planet’s population, Google Maps is the best assistant for plotting routes. Lacking alternatives, users prefer to turn a blind eye to surveillance and enjoy maximum comfort in life.
