But there is a secondary market where you can always find an excavator at a reasonable price. The pricing is closely related to the capabilities of the equipment:
- Dimensions and weight of the excavator. The larger, the more powerful the equipment. On the secondary market, the price of a large excavator can be lower than that of a smaller one. This also considers the resource of the existing components and their repair or maintenance costs.
- Track width and chassis type. You can buy an excavator on wheels or tracks. There are stationary models that require a platform.
- Type of equipment. Excavators can be earthmoving, loaders, for transshipment, or trench digging.
- Bucket volume and the possibility of replacement.
- Equipment and functionality of the excavator. This includes the set of devices and mechanisms that increase work efficiency.
An Excavator Is Needed, But Which One to Choose
After deciding on the technical specifications, the buyer will inevitably consider the choice of manufacturer. There are dozens of European, American, and Asian brands claiming that their excavator is the best. It is better to focus on ease of maintenance and availability of spare parts. After all, an excavator is essentially a vehicle with additional functions. Many mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components tend to wear out. Therefore, it is important to understand how quickly and with minimal costs you can get the equipment back into operation.
- Prefer brands that are officially represented in your country. Better yet, if the company has an office or warehouse nearby. First, spare parts that wear out quickly will be available in stock. Second, you can always order new components for your specific model.
- Some manufacturers are moving away from mechanical components in favor of electronics. This is great, but servicing complex electronic devices requires skill or experience. This should be considered if the owner plans to perform maintenance independently.
Buyers often look at the year of manufacture, choosing “new” equipment. This is a mistake. On the secondary market, quite old equipment in perfect condition is more common. It is simple to maintain and will serve for another couple of decades. When choosing, it is better to focus on the technical condition. Many excavator operators can even assess the machine’s operability just from photos. Therefore, it is advisable to bring such an expert when going to buy for business purposes.
