Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) – Coming Soon to 48 Gbps

Apparently, the new Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standard is not destined to appear in 2024, following the trend. Something went wrong. Technologists have already developed a prototype and are conducting tests of the wireless interface. And it’s unlikely that anyone will wait four years to announce their achievements, as was previously the case.

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be): Development Prospects

The new protocol still requires refinement. So far, a communication channel has been established at a speed of 30 Gbps. Initially, it was announced that Wi-Fi 7 would operate at a speed of 48 Gbps. We cannot dismiss these claims, and there is still time to make adjustments. By the way, speeds of 30 and 48 Gbps are unrelated to the interim Wi-Fi 6E standard. Its release is scheduled for 2021.

Naturally, network equipment manufacturers who recently introduced their Wi-Fi 6 devices to the market will not be pleased with the new standard. For any manufacturer, this endeavor is unprofitable. But there is one point that technologists from Huawei have already mentioned. No one listened. The core issue is that the 5G standard can operate at speeds up to 10 Gbps, while modern Wi-Fi 6 has a ceiling of 11 Gbps. There is no logic in this. Why buy new routers when a regular 5G modem works at the same speed? And the new Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standard could help solve this problem.

In general, it looks like Wi-Fi 7-compatible network equipment will already be available on store shelves in 2021. And there is a suspicion that Huawei will be the first to “launch”.
