At CES 2023, startup Frore Systems demonstrated the active cooling system AirJet for mobile devices. The device is aimed at replacing air fans, which are installed in laptops to cool the processor. Interestingly, the manufacturer presented not a concept, but a fully working mechanism.
The AirJet System Will Replace Coolers in Laptops
The implementation of the device is extremely simple – inside a solid-state structure, membranes are installed that can vibrate at high frequencies. Thanks to these vibrations, a powerful airflow is created, which can be directed differently. In the cross-section of the presented AirJet sample, the system is used to remove hot air from the processor. The circuit of the structure is semi-closed. But nothing prevents creating a through system for pumping air masses.
To test the AirJet system, several devices were used: a compact and gaming laptop, as well as a gaming console. Testing showed an efficiency increase of up to 25% compared to traditional coolers. Another point is that under high load, the processor does not reduce the frequency of its cores to avoid overheating.
At the exhibition, a powerful Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro laptop was used as a demonstration device. It was previously upgraded. With smaller dimensions, the AirJet system was installed without problems. Moreover, four membrane structures were installed on a single processor simultaneously, which improved efficiency.
The Frore Systems startup has already attracted the interest of Intel and Qualcomm corporations. The release of the first commercial AirJet devices is scheduled for spring 2023. How they will be implemented, the manufacturer does not specify. Most likely, the cooling system will become a component of a mobile device and will not reach the mass market.
