The leader in manufacturing quality TV-Boxes, Beelink, has restyled the Beelink GT-King console. It looks quite strange, considering the previous model was quite suitable for multimedia and gaming. True, on third-party firmware, but it worked great. The new model – TV-BOX Beelink GT-King 2020 – has received several changes. The manufacturer is betting on these. Since the price ($120-130) is quite hard to justify.
TV-BOX Beelink GT-King 2020: Additions
Technical specifications of the console can be viewed in the full review of the Beelink GT-King model. The differences are hidden in just three innovations:
- The Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) module has been installed. Great, but not everyone has routers supporting this standard. Also, to benefit from Wi-Fi 6, you need high-speed internet (over 600 Mbps). Otherwise, the use of 802.11ax makes no sense.
- The processor frequency limitation has been removed. Beelink GT-King now operates at 1.9 GHz, although the chip allows for 2.2 GHz. This restriction has been lifted. The effectiveness is noticeable only in demanding games.
- New firmware. It’s clear that the manufacturer has worked on their mistakes and created a proper, functional firmware. But it’s unclear why it wasn’t just flashed onto regular Beelink GT-King devices. Perhaps a new console needs to be released for that.
Impressions of TV-BOX Beelink GT-King 2020
The increase in processor frequency from 1.9 to 2.2 GHz raised concerns that the console would throttle. But that did not happen. Videos, torrents, YouTube, games – it’s impossible for the chip to heat above 70 degrees Celsius. And this is in a plastic case without ventilation grilles. Clearly, the new firmware effectively manages the chip. TV-BOX Beelink GT-King 2020 is a technologically advanced gadget (as of late 2020). It will appeal to all buyers – if only the price were more reasonable.
If you already have a Beelink 2019 or 2020 console, there is no point in buying the new TV-BOX Beelink GT-King 2020. Not for the sake of Wi-Fi 6 – no need. Better wait for winter and get something completely new and more interesting.
