“Horns” routers with a bunch of antennas and amplifiers no longer surprise buyers. Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS has already proven the effectiveness of such systems worldwide. First the ROG series, then AiMesh AX. The only thing that held back buyers was the price (starting at $500 and going higher). Therefore, the new XIAOMI AX9000 WI-FI 6 router immediately attracted attention. Similar specifications and a price halved in comparison play in favor of the Chinese brand. But is everything as good as the manufacturer tries to tell us about the gadget?

In terms of technical specifications, Xiaomi’s manufacturer has declared many useful features. Including a gaming mode that allows creating a tunnel for a specific port. By the way, all settings remotely resemble the functionality of Cisco routers, only simplified to the minimum. This increases the appeal of the XIAOMI AX9000 WI-FI 6 device for ordinary buyers.

The router is huge, and saying it is large is an understatement. The build quality and the thoughtful cooling system are top-notch. But these dimensions are simply hard to believe. It’s about the size of a Xerox laser multifunction printer. A special shelf or plenty of free space on the desk is needed for the router.
The functionality was quite confusing. At least on the current firmware, it was not possible to create a dedicated channel for specific devices and programs. And there was something to compare with. A couple of outdated devices – Cisco 1811 and Air-ap1832 – work much more effectively. And here, there is no effect.
But there is a pleasant moment. The declared Wi-Fi signal penetration through reinforced concrete walls has been confirmed. And that’s great. Even over very long distances. With such a router, XIAOMI AX9000, you can solve the task of building a wireless network in any private multi-storey house. There is no need to spend on repeaters and AiMesh systems. The Chinese really surprised us here.
