Apple has obtained a patent for an innovative car windshield. If we recall Apple Project Titan, it becomes clear what purpose the American corporation is pursuing. The US Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent for a car windshield capable of independently detecting microcracks.

Back in 2018, Apple announced the creation of an electric van under its own brand. The name was not disclosed, but fans quickly dubbed the vehicle – Apple Car. Not surprising – the company does not chase flashy names. It’s unknown what happened within the company, but the project was put on hold and nothing more was heard about it.
Therefore, such an interesting patent from Apple was a complete surprise. It immediately brought to mind Apple Car (Titan project). It’s like in one of the business models – what needs to be done to eat an elephant. The correct answer is – cut it into thousands of small pieces, prepare, and eat. Just like with Apple Project Titan. The company is assembling the car piece by piece, simultaneously obtaining patents for its inventions.
What is Apple’s innovative car windshield – what is it
The problem of microcracks appearing on a car windshield has been known for a long time. The issue lies in the heating of the glass (automatic heating in cold weather). When the glass heats up, microscopic drops of condensation form, which accumulate inside the heating system. Over time, this excess moisture causes corrosion.
Apple technologists propose manufacturing windshields from two layers, between which a sensitive microscopic film will be placed. When a microcrack forms, the film detects the event and notifies the vehicle owner.
Why does Apple need this innovative glass
It’s an interesting question, since the percentage of car owners with such a problem is very small (up to 1%). Many prefer to replace the glass at a service station. There is an opinion that such a system could prevent theft and car hijacking. For example, detecting a microcrack when the glass is broken, then blocking the engine and calling for help.
It’s only unclear how this will work if gravel hits the glass while driving (from the wheel of the vehicle ahead). Plus, hijackers do not break windshields but try to enter through the side windows – they are easier to break. Apple, as always, keeps its plans intriguing and delays indefinitely. We will wait to see what interesting ideas they come up with in the Apple laboratory.
