How to put together an autumn kit sensibly
If you are only starting out with spinning, do not buy everything in sight. A basic set is enough: a couple of sinking plugs, two or three spoons of different weights, a pack of soft plastics and jig heads to suit the depth of your water. You can top up the rest once you see what works where you fish.
- For a small river and perch: the 52 mm plug, light jig heads from 3 to 10 g, small soft plastics.
- For pike in bays: the plug and blade baits, spoons from 15 to 20 g.
- For zander and deep channel sections: heavy jig heads from 20 to 28 g, soft plastics and the 21 g blade bait.
- For long casts from the bank: cast spoons from 30 to 50 g.
