An interesting situation is developing around Germany. The powerful economic system of the country is struggling to meet all the obligations imposed by the European Union. Calls from Germans to leave the European Union are already openly heard. And this demand is constantly growing. After BRexit, BRDexit is now being discussed. And this is a quite expected reaction of the German people.
BRDexit – What are the Prospects of Germany Leaving the European Union
As with England, the problem hinges on European Union laws. According to agreements, Germany must share resources, consume offered goods, and accept migrants. Until 2022, this situation suited everyone. But now the country’s economy is “cracking.” Within the EU, Germany is losing all its political and economic positions:
- Migrants. An excessive number of migrants heavily depresses the country’s economy. Most foreigners do not want to work. And this involves social benefits paid from German taxes. Those who are willing to work create competition for locals, as they are ready to work for lower wages.
- Resources. The country is extracting minerals, timber, and metals, often at undervalued prices.
- Quotas. Import of other goods is restricted. Germans are ready to produce more for the EU, but are heavily limited in doing so.
- Sanctions. Strangely enough, Germany is under sanctions. Germans are prohibited from trading with unfriendly countries, in particular Russia (160 million people) and China (1.4 billion people).
All these problems, like a “snowball,” are already affecting the native population of Germany. This is reflected in decreasing incomes of citizens. Every second German blames migrants for their problems. Every third blames the EU for restrictions. Considering the rupture in relations with Russia over gas, all these issues are escalating rapidly.
What Will BRDexit Bring to Germany – Benefits and Drawbacks
Following the logic and based on the BRexit experience, Germany’s exit from the EU will reduce the country’s economic support costs for refugees. If England’s experience is followed, expelling even 50% of foreigners from the country will boost the economy for a couple of years. Given that Germany does not receive subsidies from the EU but only contributes to the shared budget, the financial benefit will be noticeable immediately.
However, BRDexit will also create some problems for the country. Trade with EU countries will no longer be as mutually beneficial as before. German goods will face high tariffs, reducing their popularity outside Germany. Additionally, imported goods will carry a markup. Although, this all depends on agreements between Germany and the EU. The country is quite independent in this regard and can confidently rely on its capabilities.
Another issue is currency. The euro is not backed by anything, and its rate is floating. Returning to the mark will create problems for Germans themselves. A gold peg would be required, which could cause imbalances in the economic system. But the British managed to handle this issue during BRexit, and Germans will also find a solution.
Germany’s separation from the EU will open the country to markets of any countries on Earth. Given that Germans are capable of producing high-quality goods, there will be no problems with exports. Germany has access to the sea, so sanctions will not hinder this in any way.
