Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1 – Smartwatch

Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1 – Smartwatch

We all know the Casio brand since childhood. When it comes to stylish watches in sports style, this brand immediately comes to mind. It was very strange to see how, year after year, customers moved away from this excellent brand to other manufacturers. But apparently, the time has come. The Japanese introduced the Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1.

What do we know about Casio, and what makes it special

At the end of the 20th century, the world learned about the remarkable electronic watches for active lifestyles – Casio series G-Shock. One advertising video was enough to understand that these are eternal watches. Durable, reliable – they don’t sink in water, and they are shock-resistant. Some fans still wear these watches decades later.

To diversify the watch lines by styles, the Japanese launched sales of watches from the Edifice, Sheen, Youth, G-Steel series. All are designed for extreme conditions and differ mainly in appearance and price. And everything would be great for the manufacturer if the world hadn’t seen Smartbands and smartwatches. And here, Casio missed its moment, ignoring the idea of transitioning to smart gadgets.

Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1 – price and features

Let’s start with price – in Europe, the cost of the novelty in the official stores of the Japanese brand will be $700. It looks crazy compared to analogs from other brands. But. After studying the technical specifications, the buyer will realize that this is a real aircraft, which in functionality will outshine even the famous Apple Watch.

Protection from shocks, vibrations, dust, and moisture (20 Bar) in Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1 is not even discussed. Additionally, the watch will be resistant to heat, cold, and sudden temperature changes. It’s Casio! Even the strap made of polymer materials will have excellent durability and flexibility.

Software and wireless interfaces

Operating system for Casio was developed by Google (Wear OS). Calling it a cool language is not quite right, but the point is that it can work with the Google Play store. If the watch proves itself well and attracts many buyers, there will be no problems with software support.

Wi-Fi module is hard to call current. It uses the IEEE 802.11 b/g/n standard. High speeds are not expected. But here, the Japanese also benefited. The chip consumes energy efficiently, which is critical for smartwatches.

The same applies to the Bluetooth module. A chip version 4.0 with low power consumption is installed. Overall, having both wireless connections is inexplicable. They perform the same function and are generally useless for many tasks. Since Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1 is standalone equipment capable of functioning without a smartphone.

LCD screen and its characteristics

Of course, the watch has touch control. The display has a resolution of 360×360 pixels per inch. The feature of the screen is that it can switch between color and monochrome modes. This is a convenient feature if long-term use of the smartwatch on a single charge is required.

Functionality of Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1

And here, the most interesting part begins. Brand fans probably remember what made all Casio G-Shock series watches so cool. And why fishermen, hunters, climbers, and tourists dreamed of buying this Japanese tech marvel. Now, imagine all those desired features, and add modern technologies to them. It will look something like this:

  • Digital compass with gyroscope (shows course in 3D format).
  • Barometer.
  • Altimeter (with memory for up to 40 records).
  • Tide and ebb phases.
  • Accelerometer.
  • Moon phases.
  • Sunrise and sunset data.
  • Optical heart rate measurement (with range settings and sound alerts).
  • Calorie expenditure.
  • Pedometer.
  • GPS.
  • Stopwatch (up to 100 hours).
  • Alarms.
  • Vibration notification.
  • Voice assistant (Google).
  • Workout programs.

The only drawback can be the design. All watch models are made in a somewhat strict style. Even Casio G-Shock GSW-H1000-1 with a red strap looks very rugged. Maybe this is the current fashion, but I would like more youthful style, like it was at the end of the 20th century.

Perhaps, the manufacturer was afraid to diversify the watch lineup, not knowing how sales would go. Time will tell. We will try to order the watch for testing to understand if it is the same cool Casio or a smart parody of it.
