It is known that the role of Boris Shcherbina (Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR) has been assigned to Stellan Skarsgård. The actor recently appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as Bill Turner. Actress Emily Watson is auditioning for the role of Soviet nuclear chemist Ulyana Khomjuk. The role of another chemist, Valery Legasov, will be given to Jared Harris, known to viewers from the 2011 film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows as Professor Moriarty.
