HBO, a channel known to Ukrainian viewers for the series Game of Thrones, has decided to produce a mini-series “Chernobyl”. The multi-episode project will be dedicated to the accident at the nuclear power plant in Pripyat. The plot is currently under wraps, but there is already information that the channel is looking for people involved in the disaster response.
Game of Thrones creators prepare a series about Pripyat
The Chernobyl theme remained in the shadows for a long time until the Sinelab Production studio launched the series “Chernobyl. Exclusion Zone” on Russian television. The first season intrigued viewers, and the second season, featuring events unfolding across America, attracted the attention of other filmmakers.
Famous Hollywood actors will play roles in the new series about the Chernobyl disaster. It is known that the role of Boris Shcherbina (Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR) has been assigned to Stellan Skarsgård. The actor recently appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as Bill Turner. Actress Emily Watson is auditioning for the role of Soviet nuclear chemist Ulyana Khomjuk. The role of another chemist, Valery Legasov, will be given to Jared Harris, known to viewers from the 2011 film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows as Professor Moriarty.
The release date has not yet been specified, but according to expert reviews online, the creators of the project have decided to present their own vision of the accident that occurred in 1986. It is hoped that the mini-series will be as well-received by viewers as Game of Thrones.
