Gaming Keyboard Logitech G815: Review
Peripheral manufacturers often talk about ergonomics. But it seems they do not fully understand the meaning of this word. The Logitech keyboard is a simple example of ergonomics. Comfort, simplicity, safety – the gadget is designed in a strict style. Physical dimensions of the keyboard, ease of use, absence of pads, stands, unnecessary buttons. Minimal space on the desk, maximum comfort and functionality. The design is impeccable.
The feeling of belonging to the premium class appears within seconds of acquaintance. Aluminum case, perfect key placement – only positive impressions. Even the multimedia keys evoke a feeling of satisfaction. Soft keys without tactile feedback – brilliantly designed.
Special thanks to Logitech engineers for including a “Gaming Mode” button in the keyboard. For those unfamiliar, it disables all system keys that are not used in games and can force a switch to the computer’s desktop. This includes “Start,” “Context Menu,” and even some key combinations.
For macro enthusiasts, there are 15 slots where commands can be assigned. Macros are configured via the Logitech G Hub application. The solution is not perfect but quite convenient. The fact is, there are only 5 buttons for calling commands. But there are 3 profiles. To call a specific macro, you need to remember which profile it is in. For example, the A4tech G800V keyboard has 16 programmable buttons physically present on the device. And no modes. It’s easier to use, but the keyboard itself is large and lacks backlighting.
In use, especially in games, the device proved to be very cool. The linear mode (Linear GL) was available. Low-profile keys worked very quietly and responded perfectly to presses, regardless of click speed and force.
Logitech G815: About the sad part for Russian-speaking users
Due to the focus on testing the keyboard in games, it was not immediately possible to notice one flaw. Cyrillic characters are not backlit. Russian letters are laser-engraved on the keys. This indicates that the manufacturer did not target the product at the Russian market and other Russian-speaking countries. Localization was done. It’s similar to expensive Blackberry smartphones.
It’s not that the Cyrillic letters are completely invisible. But the backlighting is insufficient to quickly orient oneself in the text. Interestingly, the “Ъ” and “Х,” “Ю” and “Б” keys are illuminated. So, localization was done at Logitech’s factory, not by the dealer. This is a serious flaw for the manufacturer, considering that the brand holds a leading position in the Russian market. The gaming keyboard Logitech G815 is more likely to appear on the desks of Russian e-sports athletes.
But these are minor details. According to customer reviews, in online stores and thematic forums, the gadget is very well liked. The ergonomics, functionality, and gaming settings, the lack of Cyrillic backlighting are just minor issues. Most users have long mastered the touch typing method. The keyboard is good and worth its money, just like other multimedia devices from Logitech.
