Instagram has been considered the most popular social network in the world for the second year in a row. Millions of users from all over the globe have installed the app on their mobile devices and enjoy communicating with each other. And everything looks very transparent if you do not think about the limitations of the social network.
Conveniences and disadvantages of Instagram
The “Instagram” project was initially aimed at sharing photos among friends. Additionally, the social network allows instant messaging, comments under photos, and likes. Users are offered to find interesting people through special links (hashtags) and to promote their business in paid advertising posts.
But, if you draw an analogy with other social networks, Instagram heavily restricts users from receiving new information. Any other social network allows external links in posts to navigate to other internet resources. News, interesting articles, services, products, reviews – all are completely prohibited. Direct links in posts are inactive. A small percentage of users are willing to highlight a text link and copy it into the browser.
And even the Instagram version for personal computers or laptops is limited in functionality. The app developers did everything possible to prevent PC users from making posts. Of course, there are browser plugins – but this is the wrong solution. If the social network is for everyone, then why not support all platforms?
The limited capabilities of the social network are noticeable even in the posts themselves, where there are restrictions on the number of characters. Brevity is the sister of talent, but important and necessary information cannot be condensed into 2 paragraphs. The result is a lack of interest in reading the text under photos. Observe people browsing Instagram. Flipping through photos, a person does not even read the text. Photos and limited-time videos are all the user sees.
The lack of meaningful content in Instagram leads to the dulling of adults and youth. Staring at the screen, examining attractive photos for hours – this is abnormal. But users do not realize that they are wasting precious time on Instagram. Are there no more important things – to communicate with friends and relatives in person. Read a book, watch a movie, get acquainted with new technologies, or explore the surrounding life with your own eyes.
