Ruselectronics May Become a Direct Competitor to Intel and Samsung

The Russian division of Ruselectronics, part of the Rostec corporation, is gradually strengthening its position in the market. Previously, only the military knew about the company’s developments and products. However, under the influence of American and European sanctions, starting from 2016, the company has heavily ventured into the IT segment. The beginning of 2022 showed that there are serious prospects for development in this direction.

16-core Elbrus-16S – the first warning for competitors

The most notable event in the IT market was the release of the new Elbrus-16S processors based on the e2k-v6 architecture. Social media users from around the world have already mocked Russian technologists. Tests showed that the new processor is ten times less performant than the ancient Intel Core i7-2600 crystal. But there is one “but”. There are not many offerings on the market capable of competing with the flagship from 2011.

Apparently, these are still experimental developments. But they will definitely evolve into something new and unpredictable for the global market. As they say, this is the beginning of a big end (for AMD and Intel). It is enough to follow the five-year development of Russian industry in import substitution. It is quite possible that Russia will win even in the IT sphere.

MicroOLED Display for AR/VR Devices

The display built on organic electroluminescent LEDs (OLED) could surpass products from Korean and Japanese brands, including Samsung, LG, and Sony. It is still far from the market leaders. But the prerequisites for this are undeniable. Considering the global immersion into the metaverse, this is the right direction for IT development.

Electronics for AR/VR displays are built on Micron chips (USA). But knowing Americans’ love for sanctions, it’s easy to guess that Russian technologists are actively developing in this area.

What consequences can be expected from Rostec

It is not hard to guess that development in IT will create very favorable conditions for Russia in the global market. Considering the friendship with China, there will be no problems with components. Therefore, the consequences are already quite visible:

  • Reduced demand for foreign company products – loss of markets.
  • Increase in Russia’s GDP through trade and the creation of new jobs.
  • Direct competition in third-world countries for IT market leaders.

It turns out that sanctions are an excellent tool for boosting the country’s economy, against which they are directed. The technological momentum is already spinning. It is unlikely that lifting sanctions will stop production. In the next couple of years, we will definitely see interesting Russian IT solutions at attractive prices on the market.
