The company Starlink is promoting a mobile internet service in the form of terminals for vehicles. The ‘Portability’ service is aimed at people who prefer outdoor recreation without losing the comforts of civilization. The Starlink ‘Portability’ service costs only $25 per month. Naturally, you need to purchase a set of equipment with an antenna and a subscription. This is approximately $700 upfront.
Borderless Internet for Drivers – Starlink ‘Portability’
Initially, Elon Musk positioned this technology as a means to provide internet access for camping. From any point on Earth, users will have access to the internet at the most convenient speeds.
There were some limitations related to the power supply of the Starlink equipment, as the technology consumed about 100 W per hour. But the situation has changed. Equipment optimization has reduced consumption to just 60 W. That means the device can be connected to a car’s cigarette lighter (12 V). With a mobile jump starter, there’s no need to worry about the car battery’s capacity.
Many carriers have taken up the idea of using the Starlink ‘Portability’ service. It’s convenient for owners of charter buses and trucks to access the internet freely. It’s affordable at just $25 per month. Mobile networks tend to be more expensive.
By the way, Starlink advises against using antennas while the vehicle is moving, citing safety concerns. On the other hand, no one says the equipment will be non-functional. So, it can be safely used on the go if necessary.
