Buyers have long been accustomed to the fact that Chinese tablets placed in the budget class do not delight with quality and performance. However, the situation has fundamentally changed. Brands that are responsible for their products and offer interesting solutions have appeared on the market. An example is the Teclast T30. An affordable gaming tablet attracted attention with its price and specifications. Naturally, there was a desire to test the “hardware.” The price of 200 US dollars became decisive in the choice.
Requirements for the tablet before purchase:
- Launch and smooth operation of all resource-intensive games;
- Large screen with IPS matrix and resolution of at least Full HD;
- Powerful battery (autonomy of at least 8 hours);
- Availability of GSM, 3G, and 4G;
- Good camera with flash.
Teclast T30: Affordable Gaming Tablet
In general, among all the offers from the Chinese store, when searching for “gaming tablet,” the Teclast T30 was the first to appear. Studying the technical specifications led to the satisfaction that all requirements are met. Moreover, the tablet comes with a new version of the operating system – Android 9.0 Pie. This criterion became the catalyst for the purchase.
Display
The display diagonal is 10.1”. However, the tablet itself appears larger in size. The wide bezel is to blame. At first, this seemed like a disadvantage. But later, when launching games, it turned out that holding the tablet with a bezel is comfortable. No accidental touches. The touchscreen is capacitive, supporting multitouch. The maximum number of touches is not specified in the specifications, but no issues were observed in games.
Super-IPS matrix. Color reproduction is excellent, as are brightness and contrast. The light sensor works very well. No words – only positive emotions.
The manufacturer stated that the tablet has a Full HD resolution (1920×1080). In fact, it is 1920×1200 (WUXGA). This aspect ratio is 16:10, not 16:9. This means that when watching movies or in some games, users will see black bars on the sides of the picture.
Performance
The chip marking, proudly indicated by the seller in the product name, was convincing. Clearly – MediaTek Helio P70. It is the most powerful chipset used in top Android smartphones. Briefly, it has 8 cores (4 x Cortex-A73 and 4 x Cortex-A53) running at 2100 MHz. The chips are built on a 14 nm process with 64-bit architecture. Graphics processing is handled by the Mali-G72 MP3 900 MHz chip. All these modern technologies work quickly and do not require much power.
4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of flash-ROM. There is a slot for Micro-SD cards to expand memory. The manufacturer did not specify the technical characteristics of the installed modules. But we know that the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset works with LPDDR4 RAM at 1800 MHz.
Wireless networks
The Teclast T30 tablet fully meets all the stated requirements. Works on GSM 900 and 1800 MHz networks, supports WCDMA, 3G, 4G. Even TD-SDMA. The Wi-Fi module operates in two bands: 2.4 and 5.0 GHz. The support for 802.11 ac standard (plus, b/g/n) was a pleasant surprise. Bluetooth version 4.1. The GPS positioning system works with GLONASS and BeiDou. It’s not entirely clear why a gaming tablet needs all this “stuff,” but its presence is undoubtedly a plus.
Multimedia capabilities
Special thanks to the manufacturer for the sound. It is excellent. Loud. Clear. In our last review (monitor Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQ), there was a lot of negativity about the built-in speakers. So, the Chinese, with an inexpensive tablet, far surpassed the cool Taiwanese brand.
The main camera with 8 MP resolution is equipped with a flash. It works well in daylight. It even manages to shoot videos of excellent quality. Indoors, with a flash, it handles portrait mode quite well. But it loses image quality with landscapes in poor lighting. The front camera is 5 MP without a flash. Suitable for messaging and selfies. Don’t expect more.
Media file support (music, pictures, videos) is impressive. No complaints. Even a compressed MKV movie with H.265 codec played on the tablet.
Battery life
The Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 8000 mAh is great. Power consumption of the tablet is 5 Volts at 2.5A. Thanks to the energy-efficient MediaTek Helio P70 chip. The manufacturer claimed that the battery would last for 11 hours of continuous video playback. But we bought the Teclast T30 specifically for gaming. Honestly, with the light sensor enabled, one charge lasted for 8 hours. With Wi-Fi enabled. The games were online. Perhaps, disabling wireless connectivity could extend battery life further.
Overall, an affordable gaming tablet is great. The impressions of using it are positive. It’s pleasing that the device’s back cover is metal. In games, the warmth of the fingers was noticeable. Not hot, but the thought of overheating visited. After talking to a store representative, it turned out that this is normal. “The top chipset heats up,” was the immediate reassurance.
