Xbox with 8K and SSD: Microsoft’s New “Project Scarlett”

At the E3 gaming fair (home entertainment and technology exhibition) held in Los Angeles (USA), Microsoft Corporation unveiled its new creation. It is about the Xbox console with 8K and SSD. To say that this is a new step in the world of computer entertainment is an understatement. This is about a completely new direction. A serious breakthrough in the performance of consoles capable of creating truly realistic images.

The 8K UHD (4320p) technology has a resolution of 7680×4320. Also supporting 120 frames per second, provided that your TV or projector can operate in such mode. The solid-state drive (SSD) inherently provides a performance boost. However, during the presentation, Microsoft representatives cleverly installed an NVMe SSD module. Therefore, increased performance by 40 times (compared to competitors) is only possible with corresponding drives.

But in light of such a substitution, Xbox fans realized that the console supports NVMe SSD installation. And that’s good. A head start for a couple of years ahead – always a pleasant gift for gamers. The console’s performance is powered by an AMD Zen 2 processor with GDDR6 memory. It’s unclear what about cooling, and why there’s no Intel chip – a question still unanswered.

xCloud and Controller

Good news – all Microsoft consoles (both old and Xbox with 8K and SSD) now support the xCloud service. Moreover, this support includes old games (around 3500 titles). All updates for consoles and games are now unified in the cloud service. And that’s great!

It will be interesting to see how Sony reacts to the new product, which recently boasted its mega-cool PlayStation 5 console. A fortyfold performance lead and 8K support – a blow to the Japanese brand.
