Recently, social media has been filled with fascinating videos showing young people forcefully taking medications from pharmacies and burning them on the street. Amid cheers and applause, the youth declare their fight against narcotic drugs to the public. The burning of medications in Ukraine is widespread. The reason is hundreds of drug addicts across cities who convert legal pharmacy drugs into narcotic substances.
Naturally, society is sounding the alarm. Drug addiction has overwhelmed cities and districts – the risk of HIV infection among Ukrainian citizens is too high. Dozens of organizations are emerging to combat drug addiction. Understandably, cutting off access to affordable drugs is a priority. But something is wrong here!
Burning Medications in Ukraine: A Step Back to the Middle Ages
Medications containing narcotic substances are sold in pharmacies not by chance. These drugs are originally aimed at treating illnesses, not eliminating withdrawal symptoms for addicts. Almost all allergy relief medications contain narcotic substances. The same Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that relieves swelling in urticaria. Lack of Diphenhydramine at hand could lead to a fatal outcome with a 99% probability.
So, does it mean that the people burning pharmacy drugs are aiming for genocide of Ukrainians? It sounds harsh, but what are the survival chances for an allergy sufferer without the necessary medication? And those chances are minimized. To obtain forbidden drugs containing narcotics, a prescription is required. The coveted paper with a stamp is issued only by a doctor after examination and blood tests. Any tests take 2-3 days, which for an allergy sufferer could be fatal.
The conclusion is obvious: the burning of medications in Ukraine is a carefully planned step from outside. The people initiating such actions are targeting Ukrainian citizens. This is deliberate genocide. Drug addiction can be fought with other methods. Take the example of the USA, where there are laws and criminal penalties for drug use. Why not the Ukrainian authorities adopt the experience of a developed country?
What should be done? It is necessary to explain to friends, relatives, loved ones that pharmacy drugs containing narcotic substances are someone’s life. They are pain-free operations, rehabilitation after injury, allergy treatment, a way to survive after a venomous insect bite. Drug addiction must be fought with other methods that do not threaten the lives of citizens of one’s own country.
