Major Necropolis with Treasures Discovered in Egypt
In the El Minya province, in Upper Egypt, 300 kilometers south of Cairo, a necropolis of priests has been uncovered. At a depth of eight meters, 40 sarcophagi were found, containing 17 mummies. According to Egypt’s Minister of Antiquities, Khaled Ahmed al-Anani, the burial site was discovered in one of several tomb shafts. Considering that the find was made early in the excavations, it is believed that archaeologists can expect more pleasant surprises.
Bronze, gilded, and bone jewelry, clay vessels, figurines, and amulets are among the treasures officially announced by archaeologists in the media. However, experts assure that this list is not complete for Egyptian burials.
Preliminary information indicates that a burial of priests dating back to the 5th century BC has been found. Accordingly, in the late period pharaohs’ tombs, gold jewelry and precious stones should necessarily be present.
