The passions surrounding Ukrainian football continue to surprise fans and supporters. After the statement from the FFU Appeals Committee about awarding a technical defeat to the Kyiv team “Dynamo” for not showing up for the match in Mariupol, a scandal erupted, which quickly became the most discussed news in Ukrainian mass media.
Let us recall that on August 27, Ukraine’s most titled football club “Dynamo” was supposed to arrive for the 7th round match in Mariupol. However, the Kyiv team believed that the operational situation in eastern Ukraine was difficult and did not appear for the match. The FFU committee members awarded the Kyiv club a 0:3 loss, stating that the decision applies to all matches of the U-21 and U-19 teams of the Ukrainian Premier League.
The dissatisfaction of Kyiv “Dynamo” is understandable, as a strong Ukrainian team is considered the best in the country, and a technical defeat with a drop in the overall standings is definitely not part of the players’ plans. It is expected that the Kyiv team will appeal the decision through legal channels, and the match will still take place. Mariupol’s club confirmed its readiness to hold the championship and is waiting for guests at any convenient time.
