While the whole world is digesting Bill Gates’ stance on the “golden billion,” Elon Musk has decided to endow fauna with intelligence. News about Neuralink chips implanted in animals has already reached us before. But science has not gone that far yet.

A technological breakthrough in science is very exciting. The results of the implanted chip in a monkey’s brain are truly impressive. Especially the fact that a wild animal learned to play Pong with its mind. This is even beyond human capability. But is everything as rosy as it seems in the future?

Founder of Neuralink (Elon Musk) assures that this technology is harmless. According to the author, the development is aimed at enabling humans to express their thoughts on paper faster than handwriting or voice input. Everything looks safe, interesting, and in demand. Nuclear energy was also supposed to generate electricity, not be used in rockets.

How Neuralink Works with a Monkey

Initially, the monkey was placed in front of a computer and given a game joystick. Using a carrot method, the primate was taught the basics of the game. The reward was banana jam. Then, a neural chip was implanted into the animal’s brain. The chip’s task is to monitor the monkey’s brain activity and correlate it with hand movements.

The next step was removing the joystick and offering to continue the game without an input device. Creating a communication channel between the chip and the computer game. And Neuralink succeeded in the best way. This news is both exciting and frightening. After all, we are again on the verge of having to choose between “peaceful atom” and “weapon.”
