And this is definitely not a joke. Google made an offer to Intel engineer (Yuri Frank), which he could not refuse. The engineer’s specialty is that he has 25 years of experience in designing Intel processors. Roughly speaking, Yuri was at the forefront of the world’s number one brand in high-end processor manufacturing.
Google – a Hedgehog in the Fog
The whole problem is that the Google corporation is a leader in software and service support. All attempts to get into hardware end in complete failure for the brand. Take smartphones, for example. They bought the cool HTC brand, renamed the phones Pixel, and earned nothing, eventually abandoning the project. By the way, HTC smartphones, which are allowed to be produced at the Google-owned factory, are in higher demand than Pixel.
Google’s processors are needed for cloud servers. The idea was borrowed from Amazon. The core issue is that prices for giant companies’ processors are astronomically high. And every year, platform performance needs to be increased. So, processors have to be replaced.
Google is increasingly compared to a hedgehog in the fog, which seems to know where to go but ends up going nowhere due to the fog. There is a high probability that the number one brand will not achieve the desired result in the way it hopes:
- Will not be able to ramp up processor production. You can’t do it in a year – at least 6-8 years.
- If Yuri Frank took Intel technologies with him, Google will face legal proceedings. Although, knowing Americans, these proceedings will happen anyway – the main goal is to accuse, as presumption of innocence no longer works.
- Google will buy factories but still will not be able to create processors for its cloud servers. Just as they failed to make decent smartphones at an affordable price.
