Mouse-deer (kanchil, small deer, Javan deer) is a hoofed mammal of the deer family. Its resemblance to deer is pronounced, but due to its small size, the animal received the prefix “mouse” in its name. On average, an adult individual grows to the size of a dachshund.
The mouse-deer born at Bristol Zoo has a height of 20 cm (8 inches). The gender of the baby is still unknown. But it is already known that this is the second kanchil born at this zoo in the last decade.
