The pursuit of megapixels for smartphone cameras is gaining momentum again. As practice shows, the buyer is unaware of the deception prepared by manufacturers. First, Xiaomi with its 108 MP in all flagship models of the Mi series. Now – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with a 200 MP camera. It is expected that in the coming years, we will see 300 and 500 megapixels. Only the quality of photos will remain at the same level. Because the laws of physics (optics section) cannot be changed.

The new smartphones are planned to be equipped with the ISOCELL HP1 sensor. Its feature is high-resolution photography – 200 MP. An advantage can be added the enlarged sensor 1/1.22”. But this is still not at the level of portable cameras in the budget segment. For comparison, the Leica 1” sensor in Xiaomi 12 Ultra with 108 MP will shoot better than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
If we do not focus on photography, the new smartphone will be an order of magnitude above all existing flagship models on the market. After all, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and SoC Exynos guarantee the best performance in 2022. Plus, they support many new technologies. This expands the functionality of the mobile device.
There is hope that consumers will someday understand all these megapixels and start focusing on the physical size of the sensor. Otherwise, giants like Xiaomi or Samsung will not stop their marketing games.
