Our attitude towards Sony products is ambivalent. On one hand, the brand independently creates all the components for its devices. On the other hand, it releases low-quality products and inflates prices. The Sony Xperia 1 smartphone (and its updated variations) appeared on the market and caught our interest. But again, past experience suggests that we are being deceived once more.
What is the weakness of the Sony brand
We have a very disappointing experience with the Sony Xperia XZ2 smartphone. After just over a year of use, the display started to turn yellow. A visit to the service center was shocking:
- This problem occurs with many buyers.
- No free service replacement available.
- Original spare parts for Sony are unavailable.
- What to do – buy a new one.
This was a blow below the belt. Even budget companies like Xiaomi, Samsung, and LG always have original spare parts available for smartphones three years old. After such an experience, the desire to buy a Sony phone disappeared forever.
Sony Xperia 1 Smartphone
After two years, it became clear that all manufacturers, as if by copying, started mass-producing phones with large screens. The devices simply don’t fit in the palm, and managing them with one hand becomes impossible. The exception is iPhone and Google Pixel. Other brands just make mini-tablets. Naturally, I had to look for a phone with a normal classic form factor again. And I found it – the Sony Xperia 1 smartphone.
Technical specifications and image quality can be seen in any store. But we will talk about usability. By the way, considering that Sony makes cameras for most top brands, you can even be sure that the smartphone takes great photos and videos. Plus, the manufacturer has equipped all phones with proprietary camera management software. In fact, the buyer gets a digital camera with automatic and manual settings.
Regarding ergonomics, the Sony Xperia 1 smartphone fits perfectly in the hand and is easy to operate with one finger. Yes, it is elongated (aspect ratio 21:9), but this does not hinder its use. The phone does not stand out in jacket or pants pockets when carried. It does not slip in the hands. Using it is very convenient.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Sony Xperia 1 phone
Note that most reviews of the smartphone talk about its excellent photography. They generally do not focus on the quality of the device’s operation as a mobile phone. All buyers expect, by default, excellent sound quality. The Sony Xperia 1 smartphone perfectly transmits voice messages in both directions. It creates the impression that the interlocutor is nearby. Even on speakerphone, there are no interferences. This is great. The speakers are loud, frequencies are not cut off, unlike what happens with many Xiaomi devices. As a phone, Sony is impeccable.
The disadvantages include the price – the Japanese once again set it sky-high. We are sure that in a year, the company will offer a significant discount on this model, as it constantly does. But at this stage, the cost does not match the technical specifications of the device. And paying for the Sony brand is no longer fashionable. By the way, spare parts are not yet available in service centers for the Xperia 1. This is already a warning sign. Have we bought a one-way ticket again? Let’s hope the smartphone lasts more than a year without breakdowns.
