In elementary schools across Europe, a new subject has appeared. Children are introduced to programming through Swift Playgrounds for Apple products. The main goal of the lessons is to teach kids logical thinking and provide a foundation for further growth, especially when choosing a profession in the IT industry.
The pilot project started two years ago in English and Italian schools. The results amazed teachers and parents. Children quickly adapted to the programming language and showed excellent results in learning other subjects. The innovative approach to education yielded unexpected results for the project initiators. Therefore, in 2019, the programming language was implemented in other elementary schools across the European Union.
Swift Playgrounds: a new trend
Apple Inc. is moving in the right direction by promoting its creation for free and expanding its functionality. Essentially, this is free advertising and an increase in sales of Mac and iPad computers. The flexibility of the development environment allows not only to learn the basics of programming but also to create your own applications. Toys are a small part. The Swift Playgrounds environment also helps in mastering robotics. Once children acquire the necessary knowledge, they can program drones and other remote-controlled models.
There are many competitors in the Swift Playgrounds market. The same Tynker for iOS, which is still used in American elementary schools. Or Lrn and Javvy for Android systems. But in terms of ease of learning (remember, these are children and they need full interactivity), Swift is much more interesting.
Apple’s management has already announced that the best students will catch the company’s attention. This means every child has a chance to receive a quality education and a job opportunity. Considering the company’s unprecedented growth and the opening of new branches worldwide, students are trying their best.
