What do you think of a three-wheeled bicycle with pedal drive that can accelerate up to 200 kilometers per hour? The pedal car Twike 5 is developed by the German company Twike GmbH. The sales start is scheduled for spring 2021.
The brand previously had a serial model Twike 3, which somehow did not find love among buyers. Maybe the appearance or low speed of movement – in general, only 1100 units were sold.
Twike 5 Pedal Car – acceleration up to 200 km/h
With the fifth model, the Germans aim to break the bank. It’s even unnecessary to mention the speed characteristics. The appearance alone is enough to understand whether the Twike 5 pedal car will interest the buyer or not. The bike is beautiful. It resembles a future unmanned vehicle. Despite its capabilities, it’s very tempting to buy such a vehicle.
An aluminum frame and a plastic body – all fit within dimensions of 3325x1540x1210 mm. The curb weight is 430-500 kg. There will be several modifications, hence the range of weight. The Twike 5 pedal car is designed for two passengers. There is even a luggage compartment of 300 liters.
How the Twike 5 Pedal Car Works
The principle of operation is simple. There is a generator connected to the pedal drive and brake calipers. All the energy generated is stored in the batteries. These, in turn, power an electric motor installed on the rear axle.
The battery capacity is chosen by the buyer for the Twike 5 pedal car. The price directly depends on the power – 15, 20, 25, or 30 kilowatt-hours. The range depends on the capacity – 250, 330, 415, and 500 kilometers. By the way, charging can be done not only from the pedal drive. You can, for example, simply charge the batteries from the mains.
There are only two unpleasant moments with the Twike 5. First, the pedal car does not have airbags. That is, at speeds over 100 kilometers per hour, the vehicle turns into a death capsule. Second, buyers may not like the price. For the Twike 5, the manufacturer will ask from 40 to 50 thousand euros.
