Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp Monitor Conversations

Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp Monitor Conversations

Regarding the WhatsApp service, the team at Facebook has long been known to monitor conversations. Just by entering product names or links in the messenger, you can see targeted ads in the news feed. But the monitoring of conversations has decided to be tightened.

Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp – ChatControl Policy

The European Union has mandated internet providers to inspect user conversations in these popular messengers. According to the initiators, the information being monitored will concern violence against children. However, there are no guarantees that inspectors will not gain direct access to users’ personal information, including their photos and videos.

All of this looks very suspicious and already causes outrage among users. In some countries, owners of Android and iOS devices are even boycotting Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp services. The decision is interesting, but people need a worthy alternative. And there isn’t one. The biggest disappointment in all this is Telegram, which promised mobile device owners security in their conversations.

Good news – the ChatControl policy only concerns the European Union countries. Perhaps, the breach of conversation privacy will also affect the colonies of European countries. If the mass surveillance process yields positive results, then a new way of anonymous communication with friends and loved ones will need to be found.
