An interesting situation has developed around 213,519 bitcoins seized by Bulgarian law enforcement from a criminal group. According to authorities, the offenders devised a scheme involving hacking into Bulgarian customs to avoid paying duties on imported goods. Economically, hackers deprived Bulgaria of approximately 6 million dollars in revenue.

And here, the story gets more interesting. At the time of seizure, one bitcoin was valued at 2,000 dollars per coin. This means the criminals seized half a million dollars. However, legal proceedings prevented the government from auctioning off the bitcoins, and now law enforcement holds not 0.5 million dollars but 3 billion. Moreover, the cryptocurrency’s value is steadily increasing, and experts predict that Bulgarian authorities will end up holding the country’s GDP.
The Bulgarian government, like representatives of the European Union, refuses to comment on the situation surrounding the seized bitcoins. However, according to media reports, law enforcement may hold onto the cryptocurrency in anticipation of a miracle, as the day is not far off when one bitcoin will cross the psychological barrier of 1 million dollars. Recall that millionaire John McAfee officially declared to the world that he would eat his own penis if bitcoin did not reach 1,000,000 dollars by 2020.
