It seems that Android TV with 4K resolution has worthy competitors on the market. First – Samsung The Premiere, and now – Epson EpiqVision. If it was unclear how this technology would develop further with the Korean brand Samsung, then with the release of the most serious and respected brand Epson, everything became clear from the first announcement.
For those who are not in the know, Epson Corporation is a leader in the production of projectors for business and entertainment. It is the best brand with the highest sales worldwide, demonstrating excellent brightness, image quality, and providing maximum functionality in each device.
Epson EpiqVision: 4K Laser Projectors
It is immediately clear that the Japanese prepared thoroughly for the announcement. Two models were presented at once in different price segments:
- EpiqVision Mini EF12. Portable model based on Android TV. Wireless internet connection. Has built-in streaming services (Hulu, HBO, and YouTube). Equipped with Yamaha projector speakers supporting modern sound codecs and delivering excellent sound. The image can be projected onto a wall up to 150 inches. The recommended retail price is $999.99.
- EpiqVision Ultra LS300. Similar to the Mini EF12 model, but with Disney+ service. A pleasant feature is the built-in Yamaha 2.1 speakers. The projected image on the wall does not exceed 120 inches. However, the main feature of the projector is its great sound. It is primarily aimed at audiophiles. The recommended price is $1999.99.
Epson EpiqVision in the Near Future
Overall, Epson EpiqVision 4K laser projectors are here to stay on the market. And the competition will be serious, as the price of these devices is significantly lower than the cost of similarly sized 4K TVs. Even Android TV models with a diagonal of 70 inches and above simply do not compete with laser projectors. And let’s add size, weight, and installation – big changes are coming in the multimedia world.
There is only one moment – pixel size!
At a diagonal of 60-70 inches and a 4K resolution (3840×2160 pixels per square inch), these dots are not visible from a distance of 3-5 meters. But on diagonals larger than 70 inches, in our case – 120 and 150 inches for Epson EpiqVision, the dots will be visible. And not just dots, but huge cubes. And here are two options – step back from the screen by 7-10 meters, or wait for the release of 8K laser projectors. Such is the dilemma.
