Famous British boxer, Anthony Joshua, known to Ukrainian audiences, has once again secured an early victory in a match against Cameroonian opponent Carlos Takam. The fight took place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Recall that this is the same Englishman who, on April 29, 2017, won his bout against Vladimir Klichko by technical knockout at Wembley Stadium in London.
Sports experts find many oddities in the match between the British super heavyweight and the African middleweight. As it turned out, Anthony Joshua’s trainers prepared the athlete for a fight with Bulgarian professional Kubrat Pulev, who withdrew due to injury 12 days before the World Championship. To avoid canceling the event, organizers began searching for an opponent for the British boxer. Finding a heavyweight, especially one of tall stature, proved difficult, so they settled on the Cameroonian.
The fight was interesting for fans, who already in the 4th round appreciated the preparation and power of the African boxer, who knocked the Brit down. However, by the 10th round, luck shifted in favor of the Englishman, who ultimately won the fight due to the referee’s stoppage. According to social media reviews, Takam was on his feet and could have continued the match, thus raising uncomfortable questions for the tournament organizers.
According to the winner, the absence of proper preparation prevented him from knocking out the Cameroonian. The coaching staff prepared Joshua for a fight against the two-meter-tall Kubrat Pulev, adapting stance and punches to the opponent’s height. Perhaps sparring with shorter opponents could have helped the athlete finish off the African earlier.
