In honor of the company’s founder Ernst Leitz, the company decided to launch its first smartphone under the Leica brand. But lacking experience in this area, the management found an interesting solution. The technical specifications required a top-tier device, and also with high-quality optics. The Japanese are smart guys and quickly found a solution. They negotiated with their partner – Sharp Corporation, to use their new product, which had not yet been officially presented. Although the announced price was $1056.

Having a remarkable smartphone in terms of performance, Leica simply changed the official name of the gadget to Leica Leitz Phone 1. Actually, there are some changes – the storage capacity increased from 128 GB to 256 GB. The camera block design was also changed. It became round and received a lens cover as a gift.

We hope that the Leitz Phone 1 will feature decent software for managing and configuring the camera in the smartphone. After all, a 1-inch sensor (13.2×8.8 mm) with an f/1.9 aperture and a 20-megapixel sensor is better than all modern compact cameras on the market. There is an opinion that even the new Huawei P50 Pro will fall short in photo quality compared to the Leica Leitz Phone camera.
