It is unknown how the global community will perceive the statement from Chinese media, but geneticists in the Middle Kingdom are getting closer to a breakthrough, aided by primates.
Successful Cloning of Monkey Offspring in China
The end of 2017 was a festive time for Chinese genetic engineers, as they managed to clone monkeys. The monkey offspring, Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua, are demonstrating normal growth for primates of their age. The Chinese do not intend to stop at the achieved results and promise to surprise the public with new discoveries in genetics soon.
Cloning animals is not new to China. Recently, the Middle Kingdom showcased a genetically modified Beagle dog, cloned by scientists. The animal was named Lun Lun, and they promised to eliminate loneliness by cloning a second half for the dog.
Success in animal cloning allows scientists to look into the future, where humanity will have the chance to treat diseases and create organs based on the genetic material of a healthy organism. Officially, besides the Chinese, Americans and Europeans are also engaged in animal cloning, although they prefer to keep their achievements in genetics under wraps.
