There is no such thing as an office, home, or gaming case. All this was invented by the sellers. There are standards that manufacturers adhere to. And all these standards boil down to the placement of "hardware" inside and its high-quality cooling.

 

Sizes of computer cases as per standard

 

To simplify the task for the consumer, manufacturers have introduced special markings for housings, which clearly prescribe the dimensions of the structure and its structure inside:

 

• Full Tower. Or "tower", as many computer scientists say. This is the largest case size on the market. As a standard, there are no restrictions on the internal components of the system. Motherboards of any size, elongated gaming video cards, the ability to install a water cooling system. Even the placement of information storage devices will never be a problem. Towers are often supplemented with coolers (or have 5-8 places for their installation) for high-quality cooling. The disadvantages of Full Tower cases are in size, weight and relatively high price.
• Midi-Tower. Or "half-tower". The feature of such a case is in its compact size, with which there are no restrictions on the installation of any system components. With only one difference - inside the case, after installing all the computer parts, there is not enough free space.

• Mini-Tower. Classic case for mounting ATX motherboards. The compact design is not always ready to accommodate gaming video cards (360 mm or more). But for a baseboard with a processor, memory and a couple of drives with a regular video card, it will be enough for the eyes. These enclosures are more likely to ship with power supplies than to outperform competitors in terms of price.
• Desktop. Small cases for motherboards of small sizes (mini or micro ATX). The peculiarity of the structures is the ability to install them vertically and horizontally. Many manufacturers of video cards, for example, ASUS, do not recommend using such cases.
• CUBE. They are designed for the installation of small motherboards and a lot of information storage devices. More often, such systems are used to create file servers.
• RackMount. Chassis are called server chassis, but not all models fit this definition. Feature of the product in horizontal installation. It is convenient to place it, for example, under a monitor so that it does not take up space on the table. On server cases, along the edges of the front panel, there are ears for mounting in a server rack.

 

Case with or without coolers - which is better

 

Here, it all depends on the brand. If it is a worthy manufacturer (Thermaltake, Corsair, NZXT, Zalman, be quiet), it is better to take with built-in fans. Or a water cooling system. If some state employee, then it is more profitable to buy a case without coolers and put high-quality propellers there.

Many housings are equipped with reobases. This is a special panel on which all coolers are brought together. The built-in computer can control the rotation speed, backlight, power supply of the cooling system. A handy thing, only in cases of worthy brands. In budget cases, it is better not to overpay for such an innovation.

 

Additional functions in computer cases

 

Be sure to pay attention to the presence of cable management. These are special niches or tubes in which cables are laid inside the system. They are needed to organize high-quality cooling of components inside the system.

Interface ports outside the case are always welcome. But. If the connectors are located on the upper edge and do not have a plug, they will collect dust and debris. And if you accidentally spill water or coffee on them, then they can close on the power supply. The motherboard often burns out due to a short circuit of the USB ports.

The presence of dust filters on the grilles of the case is always welcome. It's good when the nets are removable. Filters can be metal, polymer and rag. The material is not important, as any mesh is guaranteed to stop dust.

Spare parts for installing SSD. Manufacturers produce cases for 3.5-inch HDD. And users buy SSD drives. So that they do not hang out on wires in the system unit, it is better to install them in the niches for the HDD. To do this, complete with the case, there must be adapter pockets.
