Among budget solutions (up to $50), a dozen TV boxes can boast high performance. In our previous review, five winners were identified. But many readers ask – what is better to buy not in China, but on the domestic market? After all, the price of boxes from other countries strangely increases, and their specifications worsen.
Entering one of the online stores in our country, we bought the TV-BOX X96 Max Plus 2/16 GB for $40. The same box costs $25 in China. Overpaying more than 50%, we guaranteed to receive a working and technically sound device. Moreover, payment was made after testing the TV-BOX. This is the advantage of buying devices on the domestic market. On one hand – overpayment. On the other hand – no “cat in the bag” and disputes with the seller.

Review of TV-BOX X96 Max Plus 2/16 GB
The weakest link in this TV box is the Wi-Fi wireless interface. At 2.4 GHz, the TV-Box delivers only 40 Megabits per second. It even falls short of the 802.11g standard, although it is claimed. Moreover, these 40 Mbps were obtained with a business router ASUS RT-AC66U B1. There is confidence that budget models like TP-Link, presented by providers, will cut the speed in half.
The absence of Bluetooth does not affect anything. Simply, the box itself is not aimed at high performance and functionality. And there is no point in attaching multimedia to it.
Another unpleasant thing is the terrible stock remote. Of course, you can buy G10S or G20S Pro and forget about the problem. But still, this is a mid-price segment, they could have included a remote with a gyroscope. Even without voice control. By the way, when connecting a proper remote control, voice commands are not supported. You need to delete the original Google service and install third-party applications. Fortunately, the ROOT is available for TV-BOX X96 Max Plus.
TV-BOX X96 Max Plus 2/16 GB – user reviews on functionality
Among the advantages, performance can be confidently noted. Even in the 2/16 GB version, the device is very fast. The gadget handles 4K and Full HD videos in IPTV, YouTube, torrents online with ease.
There is only one moment – to play 4K without lag, you need to connect to the internet via cable (RJ-45). Over Wi-Fi – you can only enjoy videos in Full HD and HD formats.
Surprisingly, the package includes a good noName HDMI cable, which handles HDR transmission. Maybe we got a lucky batch (just lucky), but this is pleasing. Because a good cable from a well-known brand costs at least $10.
Returning to the remote control – it is not practical at all. Especially when you need to search for videos by name. Also, the remote is infrared. That is, it needs to be aimed at the receiver of the box. By the way, there is a connector for an IR extender, but the device does not include one.
Fortunately, after the review, we still have a wireless Logitech K400 Plus keyboard with a touchpad. This is a real salvation for comfortable control of the box. Future owners will have to get used to the remote included or buy a decent gadget. We recommend buying G20S Pro.
Is it worth buying the TV-BOX X96 Max Plus 2/16 GB?
If we talk solely about watching videos from various sources, then the box should definitely be purchased. It really handles any tasks and has a minimal price (on the domestic market). Such a gadget is suitable for home leisure for people of all ages. Especially for parents, who can set everything up once and show how to use it.
In cases where TV-BOX X96 Max Plus 2/16 GB is not suitable:
- If a cheap router is installed and the box is planned to work via Wi-Fi.
- The box is needed for gaming.
- In cases where the owner prefers to watch 4K movies in Blu-Ray quality. The thing is, the box will lack the performance for decoding content and network bandwidth for internet streaming. Even over cable, 100 Mbps is not enough.
