Even scientists are already sounding the alarm - in old age 1 billion people will be deaf

It is clear that parents often exaggerate when telling their children about possible health problems due to the use of gadgets. But the risk of losing your hearing due to loud music is far from a fantasy. Just look at people over 40 who work in factories or airfields. At sound levels above 100 dB, hearing is impaired. Even a single excess affects the hearing organs. And what happens to the eardrums when they are given a loud sound every day?

"Safe listening" policy is a novelty in the world of gadgets

The WHO (World Health Organization) estimates that around 400 million people over the age of 40 worldwide already have hearing problems. Studies have shown that ordinary headphones became the source of disability. It was found that at medium volume, closed-back headphones and earbuds give out 102-108 dB. At maximum volume - 112 dB and above. The norm for adults is the volume up to 80 dB, for children - up to 75 dB.

In total, scientists conducted 35 studies in different countries of the world. They were attended by 20 people aged 000 to 12 years. In addition to listening to music on headphones, the "patients" visited entertainment venues where music was played loudly. In particular, dance clubs. All participants, each in their own way, received hearing injuries.

Based on the research, the scientists approached the WHO with a recommendation to introduce a "safe listening" policy. It consists in limiting the power of the headphones. Naturally, this is more aimed at the requirements for manufacturers.

According to experts working in the field of IT technologies, such an appeal is unlikely to find support among the authorities or manufacturers. After all, it affects several financial interests at the same time:

  • Decrease in the attractiveness of the product due to underestimated power.
  • The cost of organizing laboratories to verify the declared characteristics of headphones.
  • Loss of income of medical institutions (doctors and manufacturers of hearing aids).

It turns out that "the salvation of the drowning is the work of the drowning themselves." That is, each person must understand the outcome of the current situation. And take action on your own. But it is unlikely that teenagers will listen to music at low volume. And the advice of parents is already in adulthood, when these very problems have already appeared. And so we come to the source of the exaggeration of the problems of parents who are trying to reason with their children.
