The history of DeLorean Motor Company, spanning 40 years, shows us all how not to run a business. Back in 1985, after the release of the film “Back to the Future,” there was a demand in the market for DeLorean DMC-12 cars. But strangely, the company went bankrupt. In general, it was engaged in restoring other cars.
And now, after 40 years, a smart person has taken over DeLorean Company who knows how to make money. This is Joost de Vries. A person who previously worked at Karma and Tesla. Apparently, big changes are ahead for the company.
DeLorean Alpha5 – The Car of the Future
Regarding the DMC-12 model. In the foreseeable future, we will definitely see this car in its original body style. But for now, the company offers a more modern solution. The DeLorean Alpha5 electric car looks very much like a car from the future. It’s clear that professionals worked on the design. And the technical specifications of the car are quite promising:
- 100 kWh battery packs provide a range of about 500 km.
- Accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds.
- Maximum speed is 250 kilometers per hour.
The body of the DeLorean Alpha5 has the same type of door mechanism as the DMC-12 model. Only now, instead of two seats, there are four. Whether this is good or bad is up to the future owner to decide. The price for the new model is, by the way, $100,000.
DeLorean Alpha5 – What to Expect from the Electric Car
The business owner invested generously in the new model and is confident in its success. After all, it is a truly beautiful and technically attractive vehicle. Moreover, it’s DeLorean. The brand will surely have fans who want to add this car to their collection. But these are just assumptions that Joost de Vries operates on. Automotive market experts have a different opinion:
- DeLorean fans want the DMC-12. And the new Alpha5, apart from the door design, does not resemble the legend at all.
- The car looks more like a Porsche and Tesla. And slightly like an Audi and Ferrari.
- The price is clearly inflated. It’s easier to buy an Audi from the new electric series. At least there, there is statistics on breakdowns.
- And regarding fans. Those guys who dreamed of the DeLorean DMC-12 are already 50-80 years old. And most young people don’t even know about the “Back to the Future” movie.
It turns out that the new DeLorean Alpha5 is a “black box.” A lot of resources have been invested in the electric car. But there are no guarantees that it will become a best-seller. Just like the legend, it might repeat the “success” of McLaren, which decided to take a slice of the pie from Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne. As they say, we’ll wait and see.
