Here is what analysts rightly say – if a brand finds its niche in a certain area, there’s no need to venture into another field. The beloved corporation Google excels at software development. But it struggles to produce reliable electronics. In particular, smartphones are problematic. And then there’s the Google Wi-Fi router. It looks as if designers got together and decided that the gadget should look exactly like this. And the opinions of technologists are of no interest.
Google Wi-Fi Router: Features
Note that the initial price of the network device was $199. It is unknown how many buyers wasted their money, but the manufacturer reduced the price to $99. And there is no certainty that halving the price will solve the sales problem.
The router is shaped like a barrel (no antennas are provided). The power supply, at 15 W, has a similar cylindrical shape. The device supports operation in two bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) and understands standards 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. And, by the way, it demonstrates excellent data transfer speeds. Only in direct line of sight.
Google Wi-Fi Router: Advantages and Disadvantages
They made the Google Wi-Fi router attractive but ineffective in operation. It does not want to transmit signals through a concrete wall. All because the built-in amplifier lacks power, and there are no antennas. In general, this is nonsensical. The Wi-Fi access point Apple Airport shows excellent data transfer characteristics through walls without antennas, but Google’s gadget does not work properly. Clearly a flaw.
In general, Google’s product is attractive but non-functional. And spending $99 on it makes no sense. It needs a sleek design, a little more effort, and you could buy an Apple Airport Wi-Fi. Or, for the same $100, get a mid-range router from Huawei, Asus, Linksys, Zuxel. There are dozens of worthy solutions. Finding a great router for home use is not a problem.
