Compactness, high performance, functionality, and a reasonable price are criteria that simply cannot be applied to any mobile device. There is always a flaw. Either it’s expensive or has other issues. Forget it. There is a solution, and its name is: HUAWEI MateBook X Pro.
If you draw parallels with Sony, ASUS, or Samsung products, Huawei surpasses its competitors in every aspect. It does not compare to Apple. After all, this is a different category, loved by millions of users obsessed with Mac. But, secretly, Apple doesn’t even come close to MateBook X Pro in all the listed criteria.
HUAWEI MateBook X Pro: power without limits
The eighth-generation Intel Core i7-8565U processor, running at 1.8 GHz, immediately indicates that there will be no performance issues. The chip is manufactured using a 14 nm process, meaning the dissipated power will not exceed 15 Watts. Considering that the manufacturer installed four copper heat pipes for cooling, overheating under load can be forgotten forever.
The RAM in the Huawei MateBook X Pro is 8 GB. Considering Windows 10 x64 (2 GB) is quite demanding, the user has 6 GB available. The memory stick is soldered to the motherboard, so upgrading requires professional service. By the way, the motherboard is ready for upgrade and can easily accept a 32 GB LPDDR3 module.
For work performance, the laptop is equipped with a 512 GB SSD. This is very attractive, considering competitors often limit themselves to 128 or 256 GB drives.
The discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card complements the overall picture. It’s nice that the GPU has its own memory modules and doesn’t steal from RAM. The MX150 has 2 GB of VRAM. Regarding gaming, the MateBook X Pro easily handles online games at medium and high settings. Tanks, Dota 2 – no problem at all. It can even run GTA V on low settings. It’s a pity the chip doesn’t support PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Otherwise, the laptop’s price would be even higher for gaming enthusiasts at work.
The best laptop for work: display
The diagonal of the device is 13.9 inches. It might seem that Full HD resolution is enough for it. No. The HUAWEI MateBook X Pro features a 3K display (3000×2000 pixels per inch). Interestingly, the screen is touch-enabled. The matrix is capacitive LTPS supporting up to 10 simultaneous touches.
Automatic brightness adjustment varies from 5.5 to 349 cd/m2. Contrast ratio is 1 to 1300. The color gamut exceeds the sRGB standard, which IPS matrices boast. In simple terms, the same image on the screen and printed on a professional color printer will match 100% in color. Accordingly, the laptop is ideal for creative work.
HUAWEI MateBook X Pro: design and ergonomics
The laptop features a metal case. This solution positively affects cooling of internal components. It also ensures full reliability. To prevent slipping on a smooth desk surface, rubber feet are provided at the bottom. The laptop weighs just over a kilogram. The build quality is excellent – nothing wobbles or makes noise when opening or closing the lid.
Positioned in the ultrabook class, the device lacks a numeric keypad. But it has a gorgeous keyboard. Short and soft key travel is a delight. Not to mention the backlit keys. The brightness is moderate and doesn’t strain the eyes in the dark. The laptop also has a great touchpad – large, responsive, and comfortable.
MateBook X Pro: features
The fingerprint scanner is impressive. It’s located on the mechanical power button. To unlock the computer, just swipe your finger on the button. Accidental presses are excluded. The power button is very stiff.
The webcam in the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro is hidden in the keyboard block, in the top row. To activate it, press the key with the camera icon. To hide the camera, press the button again. This solution guarantees user safety.
The device has four built-in speakers supporting Dolby Atmos technology. One pair is located on the bottom panel, the other – on the sides of the keyboard. The sound quality of the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro is excellent.
On the left side of the laptop, the manufacturer placed two USB Type-C ports and a headphone jack. On the right side, there is a standard USB 3.0 port.
The list of network devices in the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro includes Bluetooth 5.0, a 1 Gbps Ethernet adapter, and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac. The wireless network interface supports operation in two bands: 2.4 and 5 GHz.
The battery is built-in. Power capacity is 41.4 Wh (5449 mAh, 7.6 V). On the official website, Huawei states that the device can last up to 14 hours in normal working mode. Under load, such as gaming, the laptop discharges in about 8 hours.
