Mother's Day is an international holiday celebrated on the second Sunday of the month of May. It is dedicated to all women who have children. In some countries, pregnant women who are about to become mothers also accept congratulations.

It is difficult to get an accurate information about who invented this holiday. But in many books dating back to the 17th century, there are references to the second Sunday of Lent, when children honor their mothers. From later sources (19th century), you can find a mention of the day of the unity of mothers for world peace.

In Europe, the holiday is called "Mother's Sunday". On this day, children visit their parents (if they live separately) and congratulate their mothers. As a rule, children give flowers and gifts to their parents.

 

In a number of countries (America, Australia) there is a tradition to wear a carnation flower on mother's day. A red carnation indicates that mom is alive, and a white carnation is worn in memory of a loved one who has passed away.

The best gift is just to call if there is no time for a personal meeting and say: “Mom, I love you!”. At a personal meeting, a lush bouquet of flowers will be a pleasant gift.
