New computers with DDR5 will be in 2021

Not too long ago, we shared our own opinion on the market launch of a new Intel socket. To whom the fate will be prepared - to replace the line of chips 1151. And we attributed the fate of Socket 1200 to the 1155 socket. This is exactly what happened. Intel has officially confirmed that the new Alder Lake (LGA 1700) processors will work with DDR5 memory modules. And this is the first call for upgrade lovers. Which, as on the crest of a wave, manage to quickly sell old iron and buy new, technologically advanced.

 

What to expect from DDR5 technology

 

Probably, it is better to reformulate the question to “When” first. Intel representatives again gave floating terms - until the end of 2021. But we are aware of such promises from the leader in the production of computer components. Definitely, we will see Alder Lake on the LGA 1700 socket with DDR5 support closer to the summer of 2021. The # 1 brand is simply trying to insure itself against virus-related force majeure.

Again, if you believe the same sources from which we first heard about DDR5 and LGA 1700, then a technological explosion in the world of personal computers is guaranteed to us. At the entire stage of the development of computers, it was believed that the storage device was the weak link. But with the advent of the SSD, something went wrong. And the M.2 format made the motherboard the culprit for all system slowdowns. Therefore, it is day D and hour X when you need to improve the performance of the baseboard.

 

What buyers should do before DDR5 is released

 

Based on the above, Intel Corporation will create a motherboard on socket 1700 from scratch. Instead of making a duplicate, as happened with 1200, which received a revision of 1151v2. Accordingly, the buyer will have to change the motherboard, processor and memory to upgrade. The power supply is questionable. For more than 10 years, the ATX form factor of a PSU for a personal computer has remained unchanged. There is an assumption that Intel will decide to fix this flaw. After all, this is a new patent - new licenses and an additional source of income for the brand.

Owners of computers who decide to upgrade in 2021 should not rush. There is no point in switching from 1151 to Socket 1200. It is better to wait for the release of new items, tests and initial results from bloggers. By the way, the trend with Apple products showed that Americans like to increase the price of new products every year in ascending order. Perhaps Intel will take this "knight's move" into its own note.
