Unhealthy food affects the reward center of the human brain. This is how scientists explained people’s craving for junk food. Researchers at Yale University conducted a study and found that once you try unhealthy food, the neurons in the human brain are reactivated just by seeing a picture.
During the experiment, participants were shown semi-finished products and various snacks high in sugar, carbohydrates, and fats. Each image triggered a new spike in neural activity in the subjects’ brains. Notably, healthy food that supports bodily growth did not evoke strong emotions in the participants.
Unhealthy Food That Causes Addiction
The love for unhealthy food is reinforced by advertising. Scientists have established that unhealthy food on screens is associated with positive emotions. Advertising radiates joy and a desire for discovery. The desire to consume unhealthy food is complemented by colorful packaging, tempting smell, and taste. Moreover, participants subconsciously understand that their sense of smell is chemically deceived. However, this obvious substitution does not stop people who deliberately harm their own bodies.
