Subaru Ascent - the new flagship crossover “galaxy”

Fans of Japanese cars with all-wheel drive and a boxer engine spent a well-deserved rest on the Subaru Tribeca and were happy about the revival of a new star in the galaxy of Taurus. According to the brand’s marketer, Subaru Ascent will occupy the vacant spot in the crossover market.

The SUV turned out to be overall from the manufacturer and the experts immediately put the 5-meter novelty next to devices such as Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer. Compared to Tribeca, Ascent has become spacious and pretty. Only ground clearance bothers - 220 millimeters for a car with a high cross-country ability looks weak.

But the engine will be of interest to the buyer - the manufacturer removed the classic 6-cylinder aspirated cylinder and awarded the novelty with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a volume of 2,4 liter with an increased cylinder diameter. Such an engine is based on the Subaru WRX and Forester models, and promises the future owner a minimum of 260 horsepower under the hood.

But the cookies didn’t end there - the reinforced CVT, the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive transmission with permanent all-wheel drive and the tractor mode for moving 2-ton trailers will appeal to fans of Subaru SUVs. The manufacturer also decided on Ascent to supply professional equipment, borrowed from the rally model WRX STI, which can brake the front inner wheel at steep turns, shifting traction to the outer axle shaft and helping the car enter the corner.

As for the interior, here the designers worked, who were able to finally accommodate passengers in the 8 crossover. Moreover, the luggage capacity will not be affected. If the buyer prefers an expensive version of the car with leather seats, the passenger capacity will be reduced by one seat. With comfort in the cabin, the Subaru has no changes - the underground, armrests, bumpers, cup holders, chargers - the car has a long journey.

In terms of safety, the brand has no changes - in the basic configuration of 6 pillows in the cabin and one in the driver’s knees. A fully automated system is controlled by an on-board computer, which even provides some of the functions of a smartphone tied to a car. Heated seats, cruise control, front and rear cameras, automatic braking, and tracking markings are pleasant little things that make the Subaru Ascent attractive to the buyer. Built-in multimedia equipment with a liquid crystal screen and acoustics promises to delight with high-quality sound of the driver on the road.

The release of new items is scheduled for the summer of 2018. They plan to assemble Ascent at the Subaru plant, located in Indiana, where Outback and Impreza assembly lines have already been organized. The start of sales is scheduled for the first day of summer, but there have been no official statements yet. It is known that the car will go on sale in the US markets. As for the supply of Subaru Ascent to Europe and Asia, there is silence.
