The problem with all store-bought cool drinks is their high sugar content. While sweet water quenches thirst, discomfort returns after a few minutes. You want to find a unique solution that guarantees to solve the body’s problem. It’s time to find out which cold drinks are better to drink in the heat of summer.
We will talk about drinks made from natural ingredients. It is important not only to nourish the body but also not to harm it. Besides sugar, store drinks contain a lot of chemicals – flavor enhancers, colorings, and other ingredients that affect kidney and liver function.
Which Cold Drinks Are Better to Drink in the Heat of Summer
Basically, you can take any fruit, squeeze juice from it, mix with water, and chill. But there is one problem – not all fruits can satisfy the body. For example, citrus fruits can cause an appetite. This is a slightly incorrect effect. You quench your thirst – and then you get hungry. You need to find a compromise. And there is one.
Vzvar
A Slavic drink made from dried pears and apples. It resembles a fruit compote. Dried fruits are boiled in water, then the vzvar is poured into a glass container and cooled in the refrigerator. The main rule is not to use sugar in preparation. Otherwise, the effect of the drink will be lost.
To prepare vzvar, you need:
- 7-10 liters of water.
- 1 kg of dried pears or apples.
- A bunch of mint or thyme.
Fruit Drink (Mors)
For making, use cranberries or lingonberries. You can also take blackcurrants. The berries should be mashed well with a fork or in a blender. The resulting pulp is poured with boiling water and left for 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, the pulp can be boiled in a pot for 5 minutes. After cooling, the remaining juice (which will be released when mashing the berries) is poured into the container with the brewed pulp.
For preparation, use 150 grams of berries per 1 liter of water. Sugar should not be added, as it will disrupt the production process and the drink will not quench thirst.
Mozogran
This drink was invented in Europe. The exact location is unknown – each country claims to have invented it. Mozogran is a chilled coffee drink with honey. Some recipes include cognac as an ingredient. Alcohol in the heat is a step into the unknown. It is better to stick to the classic recipe.
Lemonade
Water with lemon, basil, and mint is an excellent thirst-quencher. The recipe requires 1 lemon for 2 liters of water. It is advisable to remove the peel, as it will add bitterness to the drink. The lemon juice is squeezed out and poured into a container with water. Chopped basil and mint are added. The drink should infuse for a day in the refrigerator. Sugar should not be added, as the cool drink will immediately cause hunger.
