After five years, since the demonstration of the Lamborghini Urus concept car in 2012, the vehicle entered mass production. Although the crossover lost elegance and a futuristic appearance on the way to mass adoption, it gained a brutal aggressiveness, which won the hearts of car enthusiasts worldwide. According to experts, the air intake looks intimidating and even frightening.

Lamborghini Urus – the brand’s step into the unexplored world of four-door cars with an engine located at the front, if we do not consider the military SUV Lamborghini LM 002 with a body-on-frame construction and manual transmission. Anyone familiar with the company’s military equipment and trying to draw parallels with the new crossover is advised to abandon the idea, as these are two completely different vehicles.

As for Urus, the car is simply enormous – 5.1 meters long and 2 meters wide. The new model is built on the MLB Evo platform, offered for SUVs by Volkswagen. It is worth recalling that legends like Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and Audi Q7 are based on this platform. Like the aforementioned SUVs, Lamborghini Urus uses multi-link suspension at the rear and double wishbone at the front. Electronics, pneumatic systems, and controllable shock absorbers are simply duplicated, including stability stabilizers.

And for enthusiasts of large engines, revving V12 and V10 motors used in racing cars, they should note that due to customs duties and taxes on vehicle maintenance, the manufacturer decided to limit the engine to an Audi V8 with a 4-liter capacity. However, speed lovers can rest assured, Lamborghini engineers equipped the engine with two turbochargers, which more than compensate for the lack of liters. In test runs, the bi-turbo demonstrated a power increase of 100 horsepower compared to the classic Audi V8 engine.

As for the transmission, opinions are divided. All-wheel-drive enthusiasts who prefer honest distribution of load across axles are dissatisfied with the automatic system that independently shifts torque between the rear and front axles. While such a mechanism saves fuel when driving straight, it can misfire off-road. However, an 8-speed automatic transmission with a hydrodynamic converter is a step into the future. Experts acknowledge that a powerful engine and such a transmission will add dynamics to the crossover.

According to official data, Lamborghini Urus accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, and on the speedometer, before the engine’s rev limiter kicks in, the owner will see a maximum speed of 305 kilometers per hour. Now, only roads suitable for such speeds need to be found. By the way, Urus accelerates to 200 km/h in 13 seconds.

Car enthusiasts are surprised by the fact that a crossover weighing 2.2 tons is capable of demonstrating such performance on all-wheel drive. It turns out that Lamborghini’s engineers understand cars and know how to build truly powerful and reliable machinery.
